One of the features of modern composite resins is the wide range of shades available.
This offers the artistry of stratified build-ups in complex restorations. However, the ability for the dentist to select the correct dentine and enamel shades i.e. the ideal blend between internal and external characterization, requires much experience and repeated trial & error to develop. While a successful case offers considerable satisfaction for both dentist and patient, it takes time and skill to fine tune this technique.
Another feature of modern composite resins is the use of nano-sized filler particles to improve polishability and mechanical properties. Unfortunately, the handling characteristics often suffered, resulting in a resin that is too stiff and sticky. Kuraray introduced CLEARFIL MAJESTY Esthetic in an attempt to address these issues. It has unique optical characteristics that matches tooth structure, providing a greater chameleon effect than its competition.
The superior qualities of Kuraray’s CLEARFIL MAJESTY Esthetic include:
- The use of an organic-inorganic filler combination, improving handling characteristics.
- Its “doughy” consistency makes sculpting and shaping easy.
- It has ideal transparency and light diffusion characteristics similar to dentine. This means that it matches enamel well, while the higher light diffusion quality of CLEARFIL MAJESTY Esthetic prevents background colours from lowering its value (brightness). This avoids the typical “darker” restoration in a through and through Class III or a Class IV situation.
- Changes in the refractive index of the matrix monomer has assured superior colour stability after light curing. Excellent shade predictability!
- It is not “sticky” and is extremely easy to apply & adapt.
- For dentists who enjoy the challenge of layered build-ups, a wide range of enamel, dentine and characterization shades are available.
The result is a composite that is easy to handle, provides improved aesthetics over conventional composite resins, which can be
used universally and monochromatically with confidence in everyday
clinical situations.
